When a community comes together, good things happen!

For generations the Grove City Community Library has played a central role in meeting the reading, learning, and personal enrichment needs in our community.  Thanks to a loving and caring community of people dedicated to the purpose of our library we have been able to grow and provide for the increased needs of youth programming, technology, and both educational and recreational reading material for the community.  In order to continue to meet the growing needs of our community and future generations we need to expand.

Right now we have an extraordinary opportunity to add 2,657 square feet of space to our existing library.  A firm has been retained to coordinate the construction and design details are presently being worked out by an architect.  We hope to break ground in October 2010, with completion slated for June 2011.  This increase in space will provide:

   * Increased computer access for the public

   * Meeting room for children's and young adult events as well as for book discussion groups

   * Quiet study/reading areas with adequate outlets for Wi-Fi users

   * Additional shelf space for collection growth

   * Adequate space for current and future staff

On January 7, 2010 the joint application from the Borough of Grove City and Grove City Community Library for a Keystone Recreation, Park and Conservation Fund matching grant was approved.  We need the help of our loyal patrons and supporters to raise about $100,000 more in order to receive the the full amount of the grant.  We hope that you will be willing to help!

Letter from Donor

Dear Library,

I am enclosing a small check for the building fund in memory of my mother.

Two years ago, I retired after 24 years as a librarian in the Fairfax County Library system.

My never-to-be-forgotten first library experience, growing up in Grove City, was to walking into a room full of books in the basement of Central School, where I was a first grader!  I couldn’t believe a whole room of books.  My first check-out was My Diary by Margaret O’Brien, the child actress.

It seems tragic that at a time when so many people need help finding jobs, need Internet access and have less money for leisure time activities, that budgets across the nation are being severely cut.  How proud I am of my home town that enlightened citizens value and appreciate the library enough to seek expansion!
